AS Evaluation: Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

We carried out a pilot viewing of our rough cut of 'Kosto' to gather verbal feedback on what the audience enjoyed and what they felt could be improved and the video feedback can be seen > Here <
After recoding the pilot feedback, we handed out questionnaires  to a wider audience (after a single viewing of our rough cut) of the ages between 16 to 46 and through the questionnaires we found that the younger ages (16-30) enjoyed the film with 70% saying that they understood that it was a zombie film saying they felt the story was very interesting and immersive. However the older people (31-46) said that they didn't understand what the storyline was and found it confusing.
Through research on statistics on average cinemagoers (Statistics 1, Statistics 2, Statistics 3) this was foreseen because we aimed our film for a younger audience as statistics showed us this film would appeal most towards them and didn't really appeal to the older age group because we felt as if they wouldn't enjoy this kind of film.
Overall the film was a success with the majority asked, saying they liked the film and wanted to see what was going to happen with one person saying " really wish there was more to watch" this means that our film is enjoyable and captivative to the majority because they wanted to see more.
A major problem we had was that a few people questioned did not understand the plot of the film, however upon viewing it a second time they understood the plot, this would be a problem upon major release because not many people would want/ afford to watch the film again. If we was to remake the film for major release we would certainly have to address this issue. Another positive comment we got from the questionnaire was that "The acting was very good" and "the costumes are simple yet so effective" We asked if the acting was good or not because if the acting was bad/ not believable it could ruin the whole so we really wanted the acting to be well performed and believable.

The major question we asked was "what did you think of the music?" This was a major aspect for us to get audience feedback on because we spent a long time trying to find the correct song to add atmosphere and emotion to the opening film. Luckily 90% of those questioned said they felt as if the music worked well. This was a major aspect to gain audience feedback from because if the music didn't fit/gain the attention from the audience, then it could have really made the cinematography in the film suffer.
